Office of Emergency Management
The Bristol Township Office of Emergency Management is responsible for a wide variety of functions. This information explains the basic duties and responsibilities of this office.
The Office of Emergency Management is staffed by the personnel within the Fire Marshal’s office. The Fire Marshal serves as the township’s Emergency Management Director, and the Fire Inspectors serve as assistant Emergency Management Coordinators. One of the key functions of this office is maintaining an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP). The EOP includes a vulnerability assessment, as well as a list of various resources and contacts that may be needed during a disaster.
To support the EOP, the Office of Emergency Management maintains an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) within the township building. The EOC is equipped with numerous two-way radio consoles, computer stations, as well as news and weather monitoring capabilities. The radio consoles give us the capability of communicating with all fire, police, and emergency medical services in Bucks County, as well as several other emergency services agencies in neighboring counties. This EOC is supported by an emergency generator should this area experience a power outage. In addition to the EOC at the township building, this office also maintains a mobile emergency operations center, more command referred to as a “mobile command post”. This vehicle has similar capabilities as the EOC and can be located at the scene of a major emergency, or remote from the township building should that be uninhabitable.
During disasters or certain emergency situations, the Office of Emergency Management will coordinate operations with agencies such as the American Red Cross, The Bucks County Emergency Management Agency, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
